The two slain New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the recent Manapla encounter have already been identified and claimed by their families for proper disposition.
The military authorities in Negros Occidental has identified the slain amazon as Arlene Baynusa, 35, of Brgy. Tabun-ac, Toboso and Reynaldo Vasquez of Silay City, all in Negros Occidental.
Their cadavers have already been claimed by their respective families over the weekend.
The duo were killed on the spot following a 35-minute gunbattle between a squad of 12th Infantry Battalion and a group of heavily armed insurgents in Brgy. San Pablo, Manapla town last week.
Based on the military intelligence community, Vasquez served as the political officer and squad leader of Platoon 1 of Kilusang Larangan-Northern Negros.
The encounter happened after two civilian informants tipped off the military authorities on the presence of some 30 armed men holed inside a hut in the said barangay.
A squad of Army soldiers from the 12th IB’s army detachment led by Staff Sgt. Romeo Arellano immediately proceeded to the area to conduct internal security patrol operation when fired upon by the rebels. The two rebels were killed in the encounter. - PNA
