Department of Education (DepEd) 7 officer-in-charge Carmelita Dulangon warned public schools against withholding the report cards of students who failed to
pay school dues.
â€Report cards should never be withheld,†she said.
Schools should also set specific
dates for the release of cards so “children will not have to keep going back to school,†Dulangon said.
In some schools, teachers forward their students’ report cards directly to advisers of the next year level.
But Dulangon said parents should be given the chance to see their children’s grades.
Some parent have complained about the refusal of some schools to release their children’s report card because of their failure to pay contributions to the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA).
Dulangon said PTAs should not force poor students to pay contributions.
She said, however, that DepEd cannot compel private schools to release the report cards of students who failed to pay their tuition
Before enrolling their children in a private school, parents should make sure they are capable of paying the school’s tuition, Dulangon said.
Parents who cannot afford sending their children to a private school should instead enroll their children in a public school.
