BACOLOD CITY -- The 154th birth anniversary of revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio was commemorated here by various groups staging rallies calling for conflicting causes: to establish a revolutionary government or not.

At least 2,000 Negrenses attended the launch of the “RevGov Para sa Masa” at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel on Thursday afternoon organized by the Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabansa (RAM) and Guardians Brotherhood Federal Inc. (GBFI).

Retired policeman Rex Noble, regional chairman of RAM and GBFI, is the lead convenor of RevGov Para sa Masa in Western Visayas, with Edsel Vaflor as the secretary-general.

“We see President Rodrigo Duterte as the guy we have been aspiring for because he is the only president who has been all-out in the campaign against illegal drugs and corruption,” Noble said.

Vaflor said there is a clamor from the people to establish a revolutionary government.

During the launching rites, a ceremonial signing of support to the revolutionary government was signed by the convenors, members, and other participants.

Vaflor said they would also set up a website to get people’s pulse and to further push their advocacy.

Also on Thursday afternoon, militant groups conducted rallies in three separate areas at the Bacolod downtown area to protest the proposed establishment of a revolutionary government.

Along Gonzaga Street, members of labor group Partido Manggagawa-Negros Chapter tore a paper chain which they said symbolized tyranny.

The group of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Negros gathered on Araneta Street to call for a stop in the campaign for a revolutionary government which they consider a deception.

At the Fountain of Justice in front of the old City Hall, members of Sanlakas-Negros and its allied organizations also expressed their opposition to the establishment of a revolutionary government.

Meanwhile, city officials led by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran joined the Department of Education officials led by City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas in the wreath-laying rites at the Bonifacio statue located inside the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School campus here.

This year’s commeration theme is "Bonifacio: Kadakilaan, Tularan at Makakamtan." (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
