SOME 150 teacher aides in Talisay City will receive a P500 increase in their monthly salaries next month after the Local School Board approved the raise last week.
Councilor Dennis Basillote, chairman of the committee on education, said in a phone interview yesterday that the teacher aides were now expected to receive a P7,500 monthly salary.
Basillote said he proposed a P1,000 increase but the local school board could only give half the budget allocations for the Teacher Aide Volunteer Program.
The approved annual school board budget was only P1.1 million for the TAV program. This, however, excludes the P4,000 allocation for allowance of the uniforms of the teacher aides.
The TAV is a program of the Department of Education (DepEd) that aims to address the lack of school teachers in some schools in Region 7. /Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
