CEBU CITY -- Some 200 senior officials from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries are expected to converge in Bohol for the 25th meeting of its Inter-Governmental Commission on Human Rights on November 26-30.
This was revealed Thursday by Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) Director Jose Mario Espino, who said they are ready to provide security for the delegates, together with their counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Philippines - Central Command, Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, and other government agencies.
At least 3,000 policemen from the Regional Public Safety Battalion and the provinces of Bohol and Negros Oriental will be deployed to the area where the meetings will be held, aside from the soldiers who will assist in the security.
“With the estimated number of 200 delegates, normally we are providing more or less 3,000 policemen,” Espino said. “This will come from Bohol then augmented by the Regional Public Safety Battalion based in Cebu province, and we will also tap personnel from Negros Oriental.”
Espino said they have not received any threat against the scheduled meetings, but should any threat arise, Task Force Cebu and Bohol would be ready.
Just like in the ASEAN meeting in the island town of Panglao last month, Espino said they would also continue patrolling the shores near the venue of the meeting.
The PRO-7 director is also not worried that the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) will return to Bohol as law enforcers have been deployed all over the province. (With reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
