DUMAGUETE CITY -- Seven Muslim community leaders from Negros Oriental on Tuesday attended a regional anti-terrorism meet in Cebu City.

Senior Superintendent Edwin Portento, acting Negros Oriental provincial police director, disclosed that Police Regional Office-7 regional director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino requested to meet the Muslim community leaders to improve the relationship with them and “reinforce their respective community defense”.

This is the first time that Espino called for a meeting with the Muslim community leaders from Region 7 or Central Visayas, comprising the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental, Bohol, and Siquijor.

Those representing Negros Oriental are Dione Amores, the barangay captain of Motong, Dumaguete City; Imam Abdul Maula Muhsin-Masjidus Salam, Bagacay, Dumaguete City; Imam Sadali Paco -- Bayawan Masjid Islamic Center, Bayawan City; Sultan Tati -- Masjid Syel, Dauin town; Jappar Macaagir – Ekhwanol Muslimen, Taclobo, Dumaguete City; Marcos Macawadib – Ekhwanol Muslimen, Taclobo, Dumaguete City; and Mashdy Asis -- Tanjay Muslim Federation in Tanjay City.

Portento said Espino is hosting the meeting “to improve the relationship between the prominent Muslim leaders in an effort to gain their support towards our counter-radicalization and peace-building initiatives.” (PNA) NOVEMBER 2017
