The provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Oriental has reiterated its warning against any business establishment found violating the price ceiling set by the national government for basic commodities.
Unless lifted, the price control of basic commodities shall remain in effect for not more than 60 days after President Benigno S. Aquino III last week declared a national state of calamity due to the devastation wrought by tropical storm "Sendong".
As such, prices of basic commodities are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices prior to the storm, said Angeline Gonzalez of the DTI provincial office.
These items include bread, sardines, processed milk, coffee, salt, and laundry soap. Prevailing prices at the local level were based on those in the supermarkets and wet markets, with a difference of a few centavos between them.
Price range of the following items, depending on the brand and where they are sold, are: sardines (155 grams) of three different brands (555, Family, Youngstown) between P11.80 to P12.50; condensed filled milk (Alaska and Milkmaid, 300ml), between P47.50 to P55.00; evaporated filled milk (Alaska and Alpine, 370 ml), P33.75 to P45.80; Angel filled milk (410 ml), P35.90 at the supermarket and P34.10 at the wet market; powdered filled milk (Alaska and Bear Brand, 150 g), P43.00 to P48.25; Nido full cream milk (160 g), P69.00 and P70.00; coffee (Blend 45 and Great Taste granules, 150 g), P15.50 to P18.75; Nescafe (50g), P37.00 at the wet market and P39.00 at the supermarket; laundry/detergent soap (Mr. Clean, 420 g), P15.90 and P16.00; (Perla, 400g), P42.60 and P44.00; (Surf Bar Kalamansi, 445 g), P18.00 and P18.20; loaf bread 410 g at P45.00; pandesal 25g, P38.50; iodized salt (Fidel 250g), P4.80 and P5.45; rock salt, 1kg at P6.50 at both supermarket and wet market.
