The price of school supplies continues to remain stable throughout the Ilocos Region based on the regular monitoring of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regional office.
DTI regional director Florante Leal said the DTI conducts monitoring once every two days and found that the price of school supplies remains the same despite the feverish buying spree now going on because of the approaching opening of classes on June 6.
He said parents need not worry because there is enough school supplies in the market and the DTI is continuously monitoring the prices of these commodities to prevent traders from taking advantage of the situation.
In fact, the price of school supplies went down in the Ilocos Region because of the special discount given by big department stores at the request of the DTI regional office, he said.
Leal revealed he made special arrangement with City Supermarket Incorporated, Magic, Robinson’s and Shoe Mart to grant special discount to parents and students buying school supplies from them and all these cooperated.
He thanked the owners of these establishment for their cooperation by offering special discount sales to parents and students doing their last-minute buying spree for school supplies.
Because of this, Leal believes that parents and students in the region are buying school supplies at lower prices than in other areas in the country today.
Leal also directed all DTI provincial offices to continue their regular monitoring on school supplies for the protection of parents and students doing their last-minute buying spree.
