Rice farmers in Upi, Maguindanao and elsewhere in central Mindanao are ranting on the continuing downslide in price of palay, now being procured at only P13 per kilo by traders buying dried grains in bulk, more than 50 percent lower than procurement prices in years past. They blame the massive importation from abroad of rice, as permitted by the Rice Tariffication Law, for their losses. (JOHN UNSON, October 13, 2020)
