THE groundbreaking for the construction of the flyover in Bacolod City is on October 7, 2010, said Bacolod City lone district Representative Anthony Golez.
However, the construction may face delays because of the staging of the yearly MassKara festival which will cover almost the entire month of October.
"We don't want to create traffic jams while the city is holding the MassKara festival. The public's convenience is our primary consideration," he said.
Golez hopes that President Benigno Aquino III will grace the ground breaking rites as it is a project under the President's Bridge Program.
Department of Public works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Emil Sadain assured Golez that after the ground-breaking the construction of the project will proceed.
Golez also stressed that this project can no longer be diverted to other projects. "We only have two options to this project which are to accept it or give it to other local government units which also need it."
Other sectors, especially the Negrenses for Noynoy Movement (N4NM), expressed their opposition to the project, alleging that the city does not need a flyover over to address the traffic congestion.
