Press Release: Ormoc City Mayor Richard I. Gomez attended a coordination meeting this morning, March 22.
The meeting was presided by Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr. and was attended by designated representatives from ENRO, CAO, City Fisheries Division, and City Veterinarian's Office.
The matter under discussion was regarding updates and concerns on the scope of the organizations present as well as possible solutions and alternatives to the issues and matters that were raised or have been raised in the past.
The few items the meeting covered were:
- Illegal fishing in Ormoc Bay. It was discussed that if fisherfolks from Albuera, Leyte will not cease to fish in the bays of Ormoc, the matter will be brought up to DILG, as supported by DILG Memorandum 2018-59.
- The mismanagement of Fisheries Management Teams from other municipalities of their fishermen, who do illegal fishing within Ormoc Bay, was also discussed in terms of legal and immidiate actions.
- Cases of death caused by being tested positive for rabies, mostly by stray dogs, who were not able to receive an anti-rabies vaccine.
- From ENRO, they raised the concern about residents, and/or companies, who do quarrying and the mining of sand and gravel in Barangay Cabingtan, which have alarmed them as the said village is prone to landslide, and mining would make it even more hazardous.
- The follow-up on the cages that were asked from the LGU that would serve as a temporary space for wildlife animals before they are set free.
