TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite -- Some 21 short film entries on various developmental issues facing the new generation of adolescents have been premiered during the 2017 Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) Film Festival themed “Post Millennials: Renewed Hope vs. Risks” at the Olivarez College auditorium here.

Filmfest organizers from the Commission on Population’s (Popcom) offices in the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan)regions told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday that scores of students, teachers, social welfare and the commission’s population officers gathered for the film screenings.

They disclosed that the films delved on various stories on how young people confront present-day realities and issues on teenage pregnancy, internet addiction, hard drug/substances and alcohol abuse, and early exposure to pornography.

The event also discussed and addressed misconceptions on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), which, according to Department of Health (DOH) statistics, have affected about 30 percent of the youth sector from the 15 to 24 age bracket.

Cavite Provincial Population officer Lorena Coron led the support from the provincial population offices in hosting the filmfest which kicked off November 21.

The film festival screened Tanza National Comprehensive High School’s (TNCHS) “Pahina”; Bacoor National High School-Molino Annex’ “What If, Pero Pano?”; “Butas” by Batangas City; “Click” and “Inakay”  both by schools from Pangil, Laguna; “Ina Anak, Anak Ina” of the Regional Lead School for the Arts in Angono, Rizal; “Junior, Junior” by Camp Vicente Lim National High School; “Silang Mga Walang Mukha” by Luis Palad Integrated High School in Tayabas, Quezon; “Silip” by the Tanay Youth Center; and “Talikwas” by San Jose National High School in Antipolo City.
Eleven entries from Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) were also shown during the filmfest.

The entries include “Anong Kwento Mo?” by Buenavista, Marinduque; “Bes” and “Tikom” from two schools in Oriental Mindoro; “Confidential” of Calintaan National High School; “Hi.V” of Sablayan National Comprehensive High School and “Tinik”, both from Occidental Mindoro; “Gugma” by Looc National High School, together with “Tala” of Romblon National High School and “Lobo” by Odiongan National High School also of Romblon.

Palawan’s entries include “Hiling” by San Vicente National High School; and “Paglaem” from Governor Abueg Sr. National High School.

“Best Picture” from the CALABARZON roster of films was “Silang Mga Walang Mukha” by Luis Palad Integrated High School, which also bagged the Best Director Award.

The winning film left the movie audience with a line to reflect: “Bago mo kilalanin ang iba, hubarin mo muna ang iyong sariling maskara.”

“Paglaem” of the Governor Abueg Senior National High School from Palawan won Mimaropa’s Best Picture award, besting other film entries with its subject on the misconceptions on HIV/AIDS and striking a balance in a student’s life in terms of responsibilities on academics, family, friends and social life.

Miguel Balaoro of the film, “Ina Anak, Anak Ina”, was named Best Actor, and Shane Ann Rodriguez as Best Actress.

Winners in the major film awards took home their trophies and cash prizes, along with other 2017 AHD Film Fest awardees, such as on Best Poster, Trailer, Supporting Role, Production Design, Cinematography, Musical Scoring, Editing and Screenplay.
Popcom-Calabarzon regional officer in charge Marlyn Ogaya and Mimaropa Acting Regional Director Lourdes Nacionales led the awards rites. (PNA)
