Pinky Aquino-Abellada, sister of President Benigno Aquino III, has pledged to build more preschool classrooms in the province during her Wednesday visit here to grace the Provincial Women's Day celebration.
According to Provincial Planning and Development officer Josie Jean Rabanoz, for a start, the presidential sister committed one preschool building in time for the school opening in June. She is also set to launch the "Aklat, Gabay at Aruga tungo sa Pag-angat at Pag-asa" (AGAPP) project in the province.
Rabanos said the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao has identified 12 schools as potential recipients for the project in the province alone.
Abellada, who chairs the AGAPP Foundation, said her group raises funds from private donors to build preschool buildings and school libraries nationwide under the “Silid Pangarap†program. The organization, whose members are former classmates of the President, has already put up 25 two-room preschool buildings since it was launched on August 1, 2010 and hopes to build another 1,000 around the country by the end of Aquino’s term in 2016. - PNA
