The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Oriental has received five sets of the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines to be used for the training of election officers and assistants and members of the Board of Canvassers in preparation for the May 10 automated polls.
The machines, which arrived early this week and are stored and secured at an undisclosed place, shall be inspected tomorrow prior to the simultaneous nationwide training from February 19 to 25, acting provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba said.
First to undergo training are the election officers and their assistants from the five cities and 20 towns of the province, the Board of Canvassers and prosecutors, on the use of the machines.
During the whole month of March, the Board of Election Inspectors, to be divided into five batches composed of 30 to 40 people per batch, shall also undergo similar training on computerized elections.
Aba also clarified that these machines and other paraphernalia are simply for training purposes and will not be used during the conduct of the elections, thus eliminating doubts over possible fraud.
