Peace and Order in Abra Province
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:20:39 PM »
Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) regional director Chief Superintendent Villamor Bumanglag led Saturday the send-off ceremony for 114 highly-trained policemen deployed to augment government forces tasked with maintaining peace and order in Abra province as election day draws near.

Authorities decided on the policemen's deployment as elections for barangay and youth leaders will push through on Oct. 25 in the Cordillera Administrative Region despite devastation this area sustained from super typhoon "Juan."

Bumanglag said members of PROCOR's mobile and special action units comprise the augmentation force.

Abra has been among the country's areas of concern during elections due to rivalry of politicians in the province.

The least number of casualties and election-related violence was on May 11 this year when the military and police saturated all towns with security forces to avert bloodshed due to the polls.

Bumanglag said the augmentation force will stay in the area as long as threats to peace and order exist.
