Cebu gov welcomes creation of new congressional district

CEBU CITY, July 30 (PNA) -- Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III has welcomed the approval by the Senate of a bill creating a new district in the province.

The new district brings to 10 the total number of congressional representatives from Cebu.

These include House members from the seven congressional districts in Cebu province, two in the Cebu City and one from the lone district of Lapu-Lapu City.

Davide said with the bill, which is awaiting the signature of President Benigno C. Aquino III, towns in the new district can expect their fair share of government projects and resources.

The new district called the seventh district will be carved out of the existing second district now held by Rep. Wilfredo Caminero.

The seventh district will be composed of eight towns, namely, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc and Ginatilan.

Caminero’s district will now be limited to the towns of Samboan, Santander, Oslob, Boljoon, Alcoy, Dalaguete and Argao.

Caminero, Representatives Gwendolyn Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district), Behur Salibangon and Aileen Radaza of the lone district of Lapu-Lapu City introduced the bill in the House.

House Bill 4427 seeking to create the seventh district was approved last year.

The Senate passed last Tuesday its counterpart, which was filed by Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The bill seeking to create the seventh district was originally filed in 2008 by then congressman Pablo Garcia, father of Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
