An ordinary joyride among friends Saturday night turned into a tragedy after their vehicle crashed into a concrete electrical post in Famy, Laguna. The road crash killed five teenagers and injured seven others.
The victims' Mitsubishi Adventure (VDZ 701) was a total wreck after crashing into the post along a highway curve in Barangay Batuhan. It was learned that the driver from the municipality of Mabitac took the vehicle without his parents' knowledge to meet "textmates" in Sta. Cruz town.
The fatalities were identified as Irene de Leon, Kristine Joy Abusejo, Ruben Gagaring and Jarried Ira Dalhag. They all died on the spot.
The fifth fatality named Jenalyn Dalay expired at a local hospital.
Those who survived the tragedy, meanwhile, were identified as Jake Canlas, Jonathan Canlas, Rodolfo Solapco, Arjay Agarao, Jondi Enriquez, Mark Corsillano and Mark Bermudez.
Solapco, the vehicle's driver, said he tried to steer clear of a dog that crossed the highway. By doing so, he veered too much on one side and failed to compensate the oversteering.
Police, meanwhile, said they will be filing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and physical injuries against Solapco. - abs-cbn
