Love is definitely in the air at the Commission on Elections office in Quezon City's 1st district.
Couples in red flocked to the local Comelec office on Friday to signify not only their love for each other but also love for their country by coming out to register and vote in the 2010 synchronized polls.
Husbands and wives bore heart-shaped signs that read: "Mahal ko ang bayan ko, magpapa-rehistro ako' and 'Gusto ko ng pagbabago, boboto ako."
Some of the registrants were also given pre-Valentine gifts in the form of heart-shaped lollipops. Some of the couples kissed amid the teasing of Comelec personnel and the rest of the crowd.
The Comelec said the pre-Valentine event is one gimmick to entice more people to register ahead of next year's elections.
Meanwhile, regular commuters of the Metro Rail Transit received a pleasant surprise as policemen sang love songs and even gave away flowers to select passengers disembarking at the EDSA Shaw station.
Chief Superintendent Lino Calingasan, Eastern Police District chief, said the roses also had calling cards that bore the phone numbers of EPD's emergency hotlines.
Director Leopoldo Bataoil, Metro Manila police chief, earlier placed the entire Metro Manila police on full alert to prevent a repeat of the Valentine's Day bombing four years ago.
