Some 3,000 families from Iloilo City are expected to benefit from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), an anti-poverty program of the national government, according to city executive assistant Ma. Mathilde Octavio.

Octavio, however, explained that before the beneficiaries will be given their cash grants they would first serve as respondents to the impact evaluation of the 4Ps program.

The beneficiaries shall come from one barangay which is yet to be identified by the city government as a study area upon the request of the National Project Management Office of the 4Ps.

“As study area, the release of cash grant shall be deferred for one year and beneficiaries will become the subject of comparative study between those receiving the cash grant and those who are not,” DSWD regional director Teresita Rosales, in her letter to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, said.

The potential beneficiaries will benefit from the program after one year for a period of five years, she added.

During the orientation about the program, Octavio relayed that families whose income is below poverty line are the target beneficiaries.

A maximum of three children from each family will avail of the grant.

“Each child will receive P300 for education and health and another P500 will be given for the entire family,” Octavio explained.

The potential beneficiaries will be chosen by representatives of the city government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, (DSWD) City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education, enumerators and officials of the barangay where the potential beneficiaries reside. - PNA
