The
Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission (PHCC) will ask the help of the National Historical Commission (NHC) in restoring two of the province’s historic landmarks to their old looks as part of the province’s cultural renaissance program.
This was disclosed by Arabella Arcinue of the Pangasinan Heritage Society, who said Governor Amado Espino Jr. has entrusted to the PHCC the task of restoring the old Casa Real, which was built in 1840, and its adjacent “Carcel†(Jail) to their old looks to become a continuing legacy of the present and future Pangasinenses.
PHCC headed by Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque, former vice governor of Pangasinan and president of the Dagupan-based Lyceum-Northwestern University, has accepted the task of leading in the restoration of the two old edifices.
The Casa Real was the seat of the provincial government during the Spanish time and which continued when the Americans came and renamed it as the provincial capitol after their own seat of government in Washington D.C. = pna
