Rep. Aurelio Gonzales, Jr., (Third District, Pampanga) announced that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the release of some P100 million for the rehabilitation and repair of the Arnedo Dike which serves as flood control structure protecting several municipalities in the province of Pampanga.
Gonzales made the announcement over the weekend in an ocular inspection of the Arayat-Apalit portion of the dike in Barangay Cupang where government engineers and local residents have undertaken sandbagging operations and placed gabions (large cage to protect) and spur dikes to protect the endangered portion of the dike.
He said the President has promised to release an initial amount of P23 million for the Arnedo Dike and that he is currently sourcing funds for the repair of the endangered portion in Barangay Cupang here.
According to Gonzales, a long term solution must be attained to address the problem.
Gonzales said the Department of Public Works and Highway, the local government units (DPWH-LGUs) and his office are closely working together to come up with a plan on how to divert the flow of water from its current source to another channel. - PNA
