The Revenue District Office 74 of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here will personally ask the support of May 2010 candidates for its ‘Oplan: Iboto Mo’ program.
Revenue District Office 74 head Nelia B. Demalata said they have already asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the list of qualified candidates so that they can approach them personally.
She announced that as of last week, some eight to 10 candidates from here have already registered with the BIR signifying their intention to serve as withholding agents.
Under the Oplan: Iboto Mo, “all political parties and candidates of local and national elections as well as campaign contributors are required to register as withholding agents for the five percent tax on suppliers of goods and service.â€
BIR 11 officer-in-charge, Atty. Glen Geraldino, said they might also entertain the idea of making the certificate of payment of the withholding tax as one of the required documents that will be submitted by candidates to the Comelec after elections.
Geraldino added the agency is targeting to collect some P5 billion to P6 billion in taxes nationwide if the program will become successful. (PNA)
