One Cebu to join PDP-Laban mass oath-taking Friday
« on: May 25, 2020, 12:03:51 PM »
CEBU CITY -- Officials of One Cebu Party, the original coalition partner of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Cebu, welcomed the oath taking of over a thousand political leaders o Friday here.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Deputy House Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia said the mass exodus of political officials and leaders in Cebu to the fold of President Rodrigo Duterte’s coalition for genuine change is the product of the PDP-Laban leadership’s efforts to unify the political forces in Cebu after the 2016 elections.

“We fully support the political masterstroke of (House) Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez as PDP-Laban secretary general and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Sec. Michael Dino in consolidating all political forces that have now seen the light and switched their support from their old parties and loyalties to the administration of President Duterte,” Garcia said.

Garcia, who is the founder and president emeritus of One Cebu, said she and other party leaders from all over the province including secretary general Pablo John Garcia will go in full force to the Plaza Independencia on Friday to show their support to their members who will be taking their oaths as well.

“This new found unity can only be good for Cebu,” Garcia further said. “One Cebu was founded in 2007 to consolidate the then-unprecedented political unity in the province. One Cebu is hopeful that this mass oath-taking will once again usher in a new era of political unity in Cebu.”

More importantly, however, One Cebu is hopeful that beyond political convenience, this new united force will rally behind and help institutionalize the priority programs of President Duterte.

Among these programs, Garcia said are: federalism; the war against drugs and criminality; war against poverty; and the redistribution of the nation’s wealth to the Visayas and Mindanao through infrastructure projects.

Expected to join the mass oath-taking are the mayors from the 2nd and 7th Congressional Districts of Cebu who are all moving to the PDP-Laban from the Liberal Party.

Tuburan Municipal Mayor Democrito Diamante Jr. and his political rival Daphne Lagon in the 3rd District are likewise reported to be switching to the PDP-Laban and will take their oaths. (PNA)
