Japanese and Filipino technicians near completing installation of the multi-million peso composting machines which will convert into fertilizer Baguio City's 80 tons of daily organic solid waste.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said the machines will be fully operational before May 2011 ends.
By then, he said Baguio City need no longer spend millions of pesos for hauling its waste to an engineered sanitary landfill in Capas, Tarlac province.
Baguio City at present spends some PhP2,000 to properly dispose every ton of its solid waste.
"Income from selling organic fertilizer to be produced would be more than enough for maintenance and operations of the machines - we therefore hope not only to save millions of pesos in hauling and tipping fees for disposing our garbage but to have another source of earnings for the city," Domogan said. - pna
