The Department Science and Technology (DOST) in Cagayan Valley recommended to the department to establish a medicine laboratory in the province of Nueva Vizcaya to study possible existence of herbal medicines in the region.
DOST consultant Dr. Rustico Santos, who is also a former DOST regional director, said that there is a need to put up a laboratory for research of herbal medicine as plenty of herbs in the region are present particularly to the forest areas.
He suggested that a laboratory be established in the province of Nueva Vizcaya as the province has vast area of forests in the area where variety of herb species are present and in like manner accessible to other provinces in the region .
He believed that the region has many potential of herbal plants that needs to study on and see its medicinal values.
Santos said if the proposed laboratory would be put up and operational, it can contribute a lot in the production of herbal products for healing different kinds of diseases.
