The Discovery Perlas Women’s National Basketball Team is fully preparing for the Asian Beach Games 2012, 3-on-3 women’s basketball in Haiyang, China this June.
According to Haydee Ong, Discovery Perlas coach, the Perlas Women's Team will represent the Philippines in the Asian Beach Games in Haiyang, a coastal city of Shandong province.
In an interview Thursday by host Judith Vinas over 918 Sports Radio, Ong said the team will leave May 23 for the games in China.
Ong said the team is composed of old members from Discovery Perlas which are Ewon Arayi, Melissa Jacobs, Analyn Almazan, and Len Flormata. She said the four ladies are veterans and were able to play in the last Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
Ong confirmed that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) decided to send the Discovery Perlas team instead of the men to promote the 3-on-3 women's basketball game.
Ong added the team is open for try-outs to recruit new faces to replace retired members Cassy Tioseco and Dianna Jose.
The Asian Beach Games 2012 is scheduled to have its opening ceremony on June 16. The games will run from June 16 to 22 and features 49 events for 13 sports, including beach soccer, cliff climbing, windsurfing, powered paragliding, beach volleyball and beach basketball.
