The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already implemented some 95 projects of the Arroyo Administration to be finished before the end of 2010.
DPWH regional director Osop L. Ali reported that these projects, with an allocation of some P3.6-billion, were distributed to the eight DPWH Engineering offices while about 16 projects are being implemented by the regional office.
Ali specifically identified the priority of the President's SONA projects such as the improvement and construction of Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia road in Davao del Norte; and the rehabilitation and improvement along Surigao-Davao Coastal road (Manay-Boston) in Mati, Davao Oriental.
The full implementation of these projects, as a whole, he said is a reaffirmation of the President's commitment to provide adequate transport facilities in the countryside in order to enhance agricultural and commercial productivity and thus develop faster the economic well-being among rural folks.
“We are trying our outmost best to finish all pump-priming projects of the President as scheduled and if God permits, we are positive that we can make it,†he said.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in her last July 17 visit here, committed to develop Mindanao and have a massive road development program, enhance economic growth, agricultural and tourism development that will definitely increase transport mobility and accessibility within and outside the Mindanao region.
With the President, Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. told his men in a briefing that the road development projects of the President which were undertaken by the department. "We will turn the blueprint of a robust Philippine economy into a reality," he said.
“As ordered by Ebdane, we are putting our efforts into doing not only what is programmed for today but also for tomorrow,†Ali said.
“We are here to do our jobs, and as much as possible, I want my men to achieve more than expected, and try to achieve the highest efficiency,†he further said.
Judging from his policy of transparency, openness and adherence to rules and regulations governing transactions, Ali stressed that “wala kaming itinatago dito, nagtatrabaho kami ng husto†(we never kept secrets, we’re just doing our job) and I want things to be truly transparent, he emphasized.
