Zamboanga City - The local police are conducting an in-depth investigation to unmask the mother who abandoned her newly-born baby girl in this southern port city.
Chief Insp. Felixberto Martinez, Police Station 7 commander, said Friday the baby girl has miraculously survived despite abandonment by her mother.
Martinez said the baby girl was found around 6 a.m. Thursday near a policeman's house in Barangay Pasonanca, five kilometers north of this city.
Martinez said the baby girl, placed in a small box and wrapped with a plastic bag, was found hanging in the gate of a house near the policeman's.
The policeman and some of his neighbors brought the baby to the hospital for check-up after they found her still breathing, Martinez said.
He said the hospital physicians placed the baby in an incubator though they found her to be in good health condition.
The baby could have been born a few hours before she was found at Pasoville Drive in Barangay Pasonanca.
Martinez said appropriate charges would be filed against the baby girl's mother, once identified. (PNA)
