Newly proclaimed mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of this southern city vowed to continue the programs left behind by outgoing chief executive Jerry P. Trenas.
Interviewed minutes after his proclamation by the city Board of Canvassers on Friday afternoon, Mabilog said his own development programs are patterned after those of Trenas. He said that a smooth transition is expected after the official turnover slated on June 30.
Mabilog said his priorities are on more health services for the people and other social services such as education and livelihood opportunities.
The city government is planning to establish a new city hospital and Trenas has set the pace for its construction. However, Mabilog will have to ink a memorandum of agreement for the city and the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) and Department of Health.
The proposed city hospital will be a two-storey building with a capacity of 40 beds in a 3,000 square meter-lot behind the WVMC. It will be established with an initial financial assistance of P25 million from the countrywide development fund of Ilongga Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago. - PNA
