BACOLOD CITY -- The province of Negros Occidental and nine of its cities and towns are among this year’s awardees of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
The local government unit (LGU) recipients include the cities of San Carlos, Sagay, Silay and Bago, and the municipalities of Salvador Benedicto, Valladolid, Pontevedra, Candoni, and Hinobaan.
The DILG will hold the awarding rites on November 27 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
Ma. Joy Madayag, provincial director of DILG-Negros Occidental, said the SGLG symbolizes the recipient’s integrity and good performance through continuing governance reform and sustained local development.
To become an SGLG recipient, an LGU needs to pass all the three core assessment areas, including good financial housekeeping, social protection and disaster preparedness, and at least one from the essential assessment areas in business-friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order or environmental management.
Provincial Planning and Development Officer Maria Lina Sanogal said Negros Occidental has been a recipient of SGLG since it started in 2012.
Sanogal said the province has excellent performance in its programs and projects that are innovative and its finances are managed well.
“We have good financial housekeeping. There’s also transparency, accountability, and popular participation, meaning we have strong civil society participation,” she added. (PNA)
