BACOLOD CITY, July 2 (PNA) -- The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in this city has joined the investigation of the murders of Negros Occidental Fifth District Board Member Renato Malabor and his aide Leody Jomilla.
NBI-Bacolod head Renato Garbo said Wednesday the killings were carried out by five to six persons, based on the investigation they conducted at the crime scene in Barangay Guintubhan in Isabela town.
The gunman was not alone. He had lookouts inside the cockpit where Malabor and Jomilla stayed, and also outside when he carried out the execution until he fled, investigation showed.
“It was carried out by an organized group. It was well planned and was carried out smoothly by the suspects. The gunman was informed from the inside that Malabor and Jomilla were coming out of the cockpit," Garbo added.
The NBI-Bacolod is conducting a parallel investigation of the killing of Malabor and Jomilla based on the request of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. to speed up the resolution of the case.
Garbo said they will also dig deeper into some accounts that Malabor had received threats through text messages, informing him that P1 million was paid for his head.
"We are investigating all angles, including the initial motive revealed that the killing is politically-motivated,†he added.
Meanwhile, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) added P500,000 to the P2 million bounty offered by Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. to anyone who can give information that can lead to the arrest of the killers.
Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the additional P500,000 will be contributed by the board members from their salaries.
Everyone interposed no objection in raising the reward for the early resolution of the case, Lacson said.
During Wednesday’s session the Provincial Board was emotional. The board members opened the session by offering a prayer led by Lacson. They gathered around at the table and chair of Malabor then said a silent prayer.
Everyone at the session hall became teary eyed when Fifth District Board Member Alain Gatuslao read the SP resolution extending their sincerest condolences to the family of Malabor.
Also present during the session were some medical staff of the Ignacio Arroyo Memorial Hospital, who narrated the details when Malabor was brought to the hospital until he was transferred and died on the way to the Bacolod Adventist Hospital.(PNA)
