NBI holds American on suspicion of child trafficking

AN AMERICAN faces child trafficking charges for allegedly luring minors to be his sex partners.
Kenneth Rosebush, 65, who lives in the Capistrano Complex subdivision in Cagayan de Oro’s Barangay Gusa, was arrested Tuesday night by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents.

Rosebush went through inquest proceedings at the City Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday.

Rosebush had been under surveillance for weeks following a complaint from the mother of one of his victims.

Angelito Magno, NBI regional director, said a 15-year-old girl believed to be working for Rosebush was also arrested.

Magno said Rosebush approaches minors and asks them if they want to be his helper or girlfriend.

One 16-year-old said Rosebush’s assistant and girl friend introduced her to the American.

After one month working as a Rosebush’s helper, the 16-year-old also became Rosebush's girlfriend after the American broke up with his assistant.

The 16-year-old told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Rosebush promised her a good life and gave her a cellphone and a tablet.

The girl’s mother said she did not know her daughter was having a relationship with Rosebush.

After a weeks, Rosebush ditched the 16-year-old and reunited with his assistant.

It was then that that girl’s mother went to the NBI to file a complaint against Rosebush.

"Iyang giguba ang kaugmaon sa akong anak, human niya pahimuslan iya ra dayon gilabay murag dulaan," the mother said.

Magno said Rosebush will be charged with trafficking in persons.

The case of Rosebush is not an isolated one. As of last June, 24 cases of human trafficking were recorded in Northern Mindanao, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the region (DSWD).

Eleven cases were recorded in Misamis Oriental, eight cases in Bukidnon, three from Misamis Occidental, and another three in Iligan City.

Two of the cases involved sex exploitation, 13 were for illegal recruitment, seven cases for child trafficking, and one case each for prostitution and forced labor.
