KAWIT, Cavite – The Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo (MEA), run by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), will open its annual lecture project on Nov. 18 to help impart Cavite's rich history and culture, and where the new generation could learn from local historians.
The project, dubbed “KABITEsaysayan", will open with a talk on “Pantyon: Kultura at Sosyolohiyang Kamatayan at Paglilibing sa Cavite” at the museum’s audio-visual room on Saturday, MEA curator Paulette Bedruz told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday.
The project’s opening salvo features Jeffrey Alfaro Lubang, an associate professor of the Social Sciences Department of De La Salle University-Dasmariňas’ College of Liberal Arts and Communication.
According to Bedruz, Lubang’s lecture will unravel interesting facets of the funeral and burial culture inherent among Kabitenyos.
Lubang has authored the book, “Pantyon”, which documented and traced the funeral and burial practices of the province.
The museum curator said Filipinos have varying beliefs in the burial practices that stemmed from the rich pre-colonial customs and shaped throughout history by external factors and diversity of religion.
She said Lubang’s “Pantyon” lecture will offer a deeper understanding of Cavite’s funeral and burial practices, their origin, colonial influences, and other influencing factors brought about by the changing times.
