MARAWI, Lanao del Sur -- Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. was here on Wednesday, November 22, to take part in the groundbreaking ceremony of the “Balai Filipino Housing Project” for Mindanao State University (MSU) employees.
The initiative of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), in partnership with MSU, Pag-IBIG Fund led by its CEO Acmad Rizaldy Moti, and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board led by its CEO Atty. Christopher Lloyd Lao, is intended to benefit more than a thousand executives and faculty members of the university.
A total of 20 hectares of land was earmarked by MSU for the said project, which is expected to produce a total of 1,000 single-detached houses for MSU employees, and 60 more housing units for MSU executives.
In his short message during the event, Spokesperson Roque reiterated President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s commitment to rebuild the lives of Filipinos affected by the terrorist attacks in Mindanao. Sec. Eduardo Del Rosario, as Chairman of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), stated that the groundbreaking ceremony signals the start of the rehabilitation of Marawi City.
Roque assured that the administration would never allow a repeat of the previous government’s delayed construction of housing units for Yolanda victims in Visayas.
He stressed that the President's standing order is to guarantee that all government agencies would do their part in fast-tracking the rebuilding of the city.
“Ang standing order po ng Presidente...lahat ng Cabinet secretaries, makipag-ugnayan kay Secretary Del Rosario at sabay-sabay nating pababangunin muli ang Marawi,” he said.
The Spokesperson also called on MSU employees to continue taking part in the recovery of the war-torn city.
"I’m happy to be back here in this beautiful campus of MSU. May you continue to be the pillar of the search for truth, peace, and prosperity in this troubled part of the Philippines," Roque said.
Rehab dialogue
Following the groundbreaking ceremony was the Stakeholder’s Meeting at the city hall, on the rehabilitation plans for Marawi.
The meeting was attended by officials from the TFBM, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), local government officials from Marawi City and Lanao del Sur, local religious leaders, and the academe, among other parties.
During the dialogue, the local stakeholders voiced out their concerns regarding the planned reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in Marawi.
Among the issues raised was the need to ensure religious and cultural compatibility of the government’s rehab projects for the city. They also called on government forces to speed up the clearing operations in areas affected by the siege.
Roque, for his part, assured that Marawi would soon rise again. He said the recovery of the Islamic City is among the President's top priorities.
“Ang presensiya ko po rito ay upang iparating ang mensahe na ang pagbangon po ng Marawi ay isa sa pinakaimportanteng prayoridad ni Presidente Duterte,” Roque noted.
“Ang nangyari sa Marawi ay kasaysayan ng ating bayan. Ginugulo, hinahamon, pero palagi pong bumabangon,” he added. (PCO-Content) NOVEMBER 2017
