Five people died while 15 others survived and a five-year-old child remained missing and feared dead when a motorized banca capsized offshore Sulu, a military official said Monday.
Major Eugenio Batara Jr., information officer of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the incident took place around 8 a.m. Saturday near Daongdong Island in the town of Pata, Sulu.
Batara said the victims were aboard a motorized banca that capsized after it was battered by big waves while they were traveling from the town of Kalingalang Caluang to Pata municipality.
The victims were supposed to attend a celebration. They were also scheduled to avail medical services in the town. - Bong Garcia, Sun Star Daily
