More bounty sought for Maguindanao massacre fugitives
« on: May 28, 2020, 12:25:52 AM »
COTABATO CITY--Local officials and heads of peace and order councils here have called on Malacañang to raise the bounty for the suspects in the Maguindanao massacre who remain at large.

Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Mujiv Hataman both agreed that the bounty could help fast-track the arrest of two grandsons of principal suspect Andal Ampatuan Sr.

The two grandsons, who were not identified by police pending their arrests, have repeatedly eluded capture.

Gov. Mangudadat said he will ask the provincial peace and order council to raise the bounty so that the remaining suspects could be held liable for their participation in one of the bloodiest election-related violence that took place eight years ago.

“I believe President Duterte will not fail us because he has enough knowledge on the intricacies of the massacre case,” Mangudadatu said.

For his part, Gov. Hataman said the regional peace and order council would help Mangudadatu in his bid to raise bounties for elusive suspects in the atrocity.

The ARMM governor said local government units in Maguindanao should also help locate the massacre suspects, who are reportedly hiding in areas belonging to the province’s second district.

Mangudadatu lost his wife Genalyn and eight women relatives in the Nov. 23, 2009 massacre that also left 32 journalists and media workers dead. (PNA/Edwin Fernandez) NOVEMBER 2017
