The provincial government of Guimaras is now focused on improving the performance of its public school students in Science and reaching out to the remote areas to decrease the number of out-of-school youths (OSYs).
This was revealed by Mario Deriquito, director of the Gearing Up Internet Access and Literacy for Students (GILAS) of the Ayala Foundation, which is one of the organizations helping the province achieve its academic goals.
The Division of Guimaras for several years was ranked first in Western Visayas during the annual national achievement test.
However, Deriquito complained that Science happens to be the subject where students obtained the lowest scores.
He added that the province will also be deploying more non-formal education teachers or mobile teachers to reach out to OSYs.
