DAVAO CITY – Two miners were trapped inside a tunnel that caved in Sunday afternoon at the gold-rush site in Mt. Diwalwal, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.
According to Southern Mindanao regional police commander Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, the cave-in occurred at around 3 p.m. inside a tunnel of the Bulbscor Mining Corp. in Purok 4, Barangay Diwata in Mt. Diwalwal.
Caro said the incessant rains for the past few weeks have caused landslides in certain portions not only of the mining site but also in other parts of Compostela Valley.
"We have issued warnings on landslides and floods with the onset of the rainy days and Mt. Diwalwal is one of the areas to be highly prone to such disasters," Caro said.
