Libacao mayor Charito Navarosa has urged miners interested to conduct an exploration in the hinterlands of Libacao and nearby Madalag to consult residents first before engaging in mining.
Navarosa said the Kuai Chok Development Limited Corporation, a Chinese firm, has a pending application for an exploration permit before the regional office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) covering 9,519 hectares for possible copper, gold and silver.
The application was filed in 2009, but the firm is yet to comply with requirements for the MGB to determine whether or not to grant the request.
Part of the requirements is for the company to “conduct a project presentation to the concerned local government unit (LGU)†information from the MGB regional office disclosed.
“I do favor responsible mining but residents will have a final say on the decision that we will be making in future undertakings," Navarosa said.
Part of the applied area for exploration covers the hinterland barangays of Panipiason, Medina, Dit-Ana, Mamba, San Jose, Alas-as, Pang-itan, Talangban, Alaminos, Talimagao, Catabana, Cabiawan, Singay and Balactasan in the town of Madalag.
For Libacao town, the exploration wants to cover barangays of Manika, Rosal, Bato-Bato, Canawan, Agma-ilig, Mag-ugba and Calacabian. (PNA)
