COTABATO CITY -- A town mayor in North Cotabato has vowed to continue supporting the national government’s war on hard drugs even as he was stripped of his supervision power over the local police.
Mayor Christopher Cuan of Libungan town said the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and National Police Commission (Napolcom) could have been misinformed and vehemently denied he was a druglord nor has been protecting drug syndicates.
Speaking to reporters, Cuan said he was convinced that the inclusion of his name among local officials who have been remiss of their duties in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs was politically motivated.
“I have been an anti-drug advocate eversince,” Cuan said.
Despite the removal of his supervisory power over the local police, Cuan vowed to continue supporting President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs in his capacity as town executive.
“My support for the local police remains, the LGU has been providing the police with resources and other assistance to maintain law and order in town,” he said.
In Region 12, three town mayors have been stripped of supervisory powers over the police. Aside from Cuan, Napolcom also stripped of police supervision Mayor Pablo Matinong of Sto Niño town and Mayor Albert Palencia of Banga, both in South Cotabato. (PNA)
