Members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), maritime students of the University of Antique and other groups donated blood during the
Maritime Week celebration here Monday.
A total of 30 bags at 450cc each were collected in the blood-letting activity held in coordination with the Philippine National Red Cross, the Rotary Club headed by Mrs. Fe Osorio and some medical practitioners among them Dr. Melvin Dela Serna.
PCG Station Commander Lt. Glenn Daraug led his staff who joined the blood-letting activity.
The week-long event which which kicked off on Sept. 19, was held to increase people's awareness on the services rendered by the
Coast Guard.
“We are celebrating the Maritime Week to increase awareness of the public on the services of the Philippine Coast Guard and we are glad many are joining us,†Lt. Daraug said.
During the celebration, an information drive on calamity awareness was conducted along coastal barangays of San Jose in Sept. 20.
The “Citizens of the Sea" program was launched at Siraan Hot Spring in Anini-y sponsored by Women in the Maritime Philippines on Sept. 21 and a Eucharistic Mass was held at the San Jose Cathedral on Monday.
A motorcade around the capital town proper and opening of photo exhibits will be held at Gaisano Grand Mall. There will also be Dressing of Ships and Maritime Schools as well as Blowing of Horns simultaneous with the PCG activities nationwide.
