Policemen of this capital town early Wednesday jailed a man who according to a witness stabbed the neck of a female horse, resulting in the animal's death.
This incident was reported by policemen here to the office of Police Sr. Supt. Benjamin Lusad, Benguet Philippine National Police provincial director.
The jailed suspect, whose identity was withheld pending further investigation, was apparently under the influence of liquor when he killed the horse.
If the owner of the horse will pursue the case, the suspect will become the first to face a criminal charge under the Animal Welfare Act.
The owner of the female horse is now in quandary as to how he would nurse the two-month old offspring of the dead female horse as it still depends on its mother's milk for nourishment.
The incident raised an uproar among the animal-loving populace here especially that horses stole the show in the recent "Adivay" festival which featured the skills of the natives as horse riders.
