At least 89 barangay food terminals are now established in at least four provinces in Southwest
Mindanao.
Eight more were added to the list, according to Nelly Yllanan, head of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Information Division (RAFID) of the Department of Agriculture in Region 12.
The newest addition to the food terminals, considered depot of agricultural and
food products from the villages, were launched last week, Yllanan said.
Five of these are located at Barangays Tambac and Esperanza in Tulunan; Kalaisan in Kidapawan City; Malire in Antipas; and Liliongan in Carmen.
Other food depots are found at Barangays Upo in Maitum, Sarangani; Purikay in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; and Aflex in T’boli, South Cotabato.
Yllanan said at least 15 more food terminals would be constructed in the region before the year ends.
DA-12 regional executive director Amalia Jayag-Datukan said the terminals served as depots of products of farmers from nearby villages.
“It is also the place where they can buy fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and other food products manufactured by the locals,†Datukan said in a statement.
The terminal serves also a distribution system that offers affordable, safe, and quality food products.
She also added the depot
directly links farmers and other food producers to the consumers. - PNA
