MANILA, Philippines - For allegedly refusing to pass the karaoke microphone, a 32-year-old man was stabbed dead inside a bar in Las Piñas City on Monday night.
Southern Police District director, Chief Supt. Benito Estipona, identified the victim as Edwin Miranda of 772 Sultana St., Barangay Manuyo.
The suspect, Angel Julio, 60, of 802 San Jose St., Barangay Manuyo, was arrested shortly after the incident by barangay tanods led by PO1 Rodel Buenaventura Daniel Fajardo.
Initial investigation showed that Julio and Miranda went to the Padrino’s Karaoke Bar and Restaurant along Padre Diego St., in Barangay Manuyo to unwind at about 11:30 p.m.
Already drunk, police said Julio asked Miranda to hand over the karaoke’s microphone.
Police said Miranda refused, causing Julio to shout and curse at the victim. A fight then ensued which was broken up by the waiters. Police said Julio then hurriedly left the bar.
Police said Julio then returned to the bar armed with a knife. Without warning, he lunged at Miranda and stabbed him repeatedly at the body.
Miranda was rushed to the Las Piñas District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Julio meanwhile is now detained at the Las Piñas City Police headquarters as a charge for murder is being readied against him.
