SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao -- Police arrested a village chair of Maguindanao town who had been hiding from the law for charges of attempted murder.

Chief Inspector Armando Liwan, Shariff Aguak town police chief, identified the village official as Basit Mama Taguigaya, 38, of Barangay Inaladan, Shariff Saydona Mustapha.

Liwan said Taguigaya was arrested in his second home in Barangay Poblacion, Shariff Aguak at around 5 p.m. Monday on the basis of warrant of arrest issued by Judge Aladrex Betoya of Regional Trial Court Branch 16 in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

Liwan would not say when and where Taguigawa committed the alleged crime. He said the suspect did not resist arrest.

Taguigawa refused to answer media inquiry on his case except by saying, through a representative, that his arrest could be politically motivated.

Taguigawa is seeking reelection in the next barangay and SK elections in Shariff Saydona.

Also, lawmen arrested a wanted person in Barangay Dalumangcob, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao on Monday.

Armed with an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 13 Judge Bansawan Ibrahim, Asdani and his men arrested Kamdan in his house. He did not resist arrest. (PNA)
