CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A total of 56 local government units (LGUs)  in Central Luzon that successfully passed this year's Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) assessments have received a total of PHP117 million in subsidy from the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) to support their local development initiatives. 

The three provincial governments, five city governments and 48 municipal governments in Central Luzon received the PCF, an incentive provided to LGUs in the form of financial grant for their local development projects included in their Annual Investment Program (AIP).

It is given to LGUs that have shown good governance practices in the areas of transparency, accountability, participation and service delivery.

The three provinces in the region that were SGLG awardees, namely Bataan, Bulacan and Pampanga, received PHP3 million each of PCF incentives.

The cities of Balanga in Bataan; San Fernando and Mabalacat in Pampanga; Gapan and Science City of Munoz in Nueva Ecija, on the other hand, were awarded with PHP2.4 million PCF each.

Meanwhile, the 48 municipal governments in the region that were given PHP2-million PCF each were Baler in Aurora; Bagac, Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Mariveles, Morong, Orani, Pilar and Samal in Bataan; Angat, Baliuag, Bustos, Guinguinto and Plaridel in Bulacan;

Cabiao; Gen. Natividad; Llanera; Nampicuan; Penaranda; Quezon; San Antonio; San Leonardo; Sta. Rosa; Talavera; Talugtug and Zaragoza, in Nueva Ecija; Arayat; Bacolor; Floridablanca; Guagua; Lubao; Macabebe; Magalang; Masantol; Mexico; Porac; San Luis; Sta. Ana and Sto. Tomas in Pampanga; Gerona; Moncada; Paniqui; Pura; San Jose; San Manuel; Santa Ignacia; Victoria in Tarlac; and San Antonio in Zambales.

Central Luzon is the second region with the most number of SGLG awardees this year, next to Region 1 with 68 awardees.

The number of this year's winners is significantly higher compared to year 2016 with 37 awardees.

DILG Regional Director Julie Daquioag earlier said it is an indication that more local officials, functionaries and employees have now learned to embrace the principles of good governance.
