The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) provincial office on Wednesday night seized a dump truck loaded with 35 pieces of chainsaw cut lumber and 18 pieces more of heavy lumber being re-sawn into different sizes allegedly on the lot of Bagac town Mayor Rommel del Rosario at the La Katrina Subdivision.

Ricardo Lazaro, an official of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO), said the confiscation was the result of a long and dedicated surveillance by DENR operatives on illegal activities following leads by concerned citizens.

“Bagac is considered a hotspot area for timber poaching,” Lazaro said.

Also confiscated were two circular saws used in the circular re-saw mill found in a secluded area at the back of the mayor’s house.

The dump truck with plate number RJS-704 was allegedly registered in the name of Bagac municipality.

The PENRO official said the driver and helper of the truck scampered away when they saw DENR men approaching. - pna
