ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) here on Wednesday started printing and releasing driver’s license cards with a five-year validity period.
Nurhuda Omar-Nurulla, LTO local licensing center head, said they prioritized the printing of cards for applicants from December 2016 until March 2017.
Nurulla said the local licensing office has a backlog of 23,000 cards and is targeting to clear it by the first quarter of 2018.
She said later on they will print license cards for applicants who applied after the month of March.
On Wednesday, they were able to print around 100 cards for drivers who applied for renewal of license.
Nurulla said the issuance of license cards was halted due to the delayed arrival of the plastic cards and printing machine from the LTO central office.
She said the new license card has special security features as well as the holder’s information such as name, address, blood type and biometrics.
The printing is also being done at the LTO extension and satellite offices to fast-track the release of the license cards.
LTO client Son Gantalao was happy that he already received his license card after waiting for a year.
“I’m happy because the validity of the license is already five years,” he added. (PNA)
