Intermittent weather did not deter students and employees from government and non-government agencies to move ahead with their “Ayuda Limpiesa,†project Saturday.
The Ayuda Limpiesa, a clean-up drive launched in celebration of Tourism Week, was held at Paseo del Mar, public market, R.T. Lim Boulevard and major streets within the city proper area.
Intermittent rains hit this city on Saturday but most of this city’s activities, specifically the Ayuda Limpiesa was not affected.
Mayor Celso Lobregat thanked the participants to the clean-up activity, now on its 9th year, for sharing their efforts to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the city.
Lobregat said the activity will make the city attractive to tourists and visitors.
City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. likewise commended the participants for their enthusiasm by showing up despite the unstable weather condition.
Aside from "Ayuda Limpiesa," the city government also extended the Libre Paseo or free tour for interested participants and the culminating day of the Zamboanga Food Festival, an exhibit of Chavacano cuisines and delicacies at the Plaza del Pilar on Saturday—all forming part of the Tourism Week celebration.
Lobregat has issued an executive order declaring September 21-27 as Tourism Week in Zamboanga City with the theme "Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development.â€
Participants to the clean-up activity included the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City General Services Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Zamboanga City Water District, Universidad de Zamboanga, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School (Tetuan), Brent Hospital and Colleges, Inc., Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, Western Mindanao Foundation College, Southern City Colleges, MEIN College, Inc., STI-College Zamboanga, Western Mindanao State University and Zamboanga State Polytechnic College.
