Cebu City officials are now pointing at each other on who recommended the P80,000 price for each laptop to be given to 24 judges and justices assigned in the city, following questions raised on the proposed P1.9-million purchase.
Councilor Gerardo Carillo said his office made a request for 24 laptops, but did not prescribe any brand, unit specifications or price.
He denied the statement of Management Information and Computer Services (Mics) head William Artajo that it was his office that set the price at P80,000 for each laptop.
Even Cebu Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Meinrado Paredes admitted an P80,000-laptop for a judge is too much.
“It’s too expensive. There are laptops that cost P20,000 to P30,000. I don’t need an expensive laptop,†Paredes told Sun.Star Cebu in a mobile phone interview yesterday.
